The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Centre for Applied Economic Research and the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) will hold a joint conference on 25-26 November 2024 at UNSW Sydney, Australia.

This event is supported by the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (a collaboration with the UK Office for National Statistics), the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the UNSW Business School and School of Economics. 

The conference will be free to attend and will be held in person. 

Keynote speakers: 

  • Paul Schreyer, OECD
  • Jonathan Haskel, Imperial College London and Bank of England (TBC)

Call for papers now open

We invite submissions of papers on all aspects of the measurement and use of economic statistics. We welcome contributions using new methods (such as AI or machine learning) and new sources of data (e.g. firm-level data, high velocity data, web-scraped information or time use data).

Areas of particular interest include: 

  • Digital economy
  • Productivity
  • Land and natural resources
  • Difficult to measure sectors, such as finance, insurance and telecommunications
  • Price indices
  • Public sector productivity
  • System of National Accounts 2025

There will be special sessions on environmental economic accounting and micro data research in economics.

The deadline for all submissions is 23:59 (Sydney local time – AEST)/13:59 (BST) 14 August 2024. Decisions will be made soon after the deadline.
